The Hawk Battalion JROTC program has kicked off the new academic year with remarkable enthusiasm and promise. Known for its dedication to developing future leaders, the program is already demonstrating its commitment to excellence and community engagement. One of the highlights of the new year has been the introduction of the new JROTC instructor: Lt Colonel Todd Balog. As the year progresses, the Hawk Battalion JROTC program is poised to achieve even greater heights. With a strong foundation of discipline, innovation, and community spirit, the cadets are well on their way to becoming exemplary leaders of tomorrow. The future looks bright for the Hawk Battalion, and their journey this year is just the beginning of a legacy of excellence.

This past month has been exciting and full. Early in this month, our Cadets began training for raiders and on September 30th they got to show off their efforts by competing against other schools. The male team placed 2nd overall in the male division and the female team placed 3rd overall in the female division. As for our drill and ceremony teams, we held a Saber Guard for the homecoming game on October 6th. On the same day, we also had a POW/MIA Table Honor Guard at hotel Radisson for the Veterans homeless association. We look forward to starting tryouts and practice for our Rifle team and going back to the VMC for our upcoming Raider meet to improve our scores. On behalf of Colonel Thomas, Sergeant Thomas, and the Viera Battalion Staff, we would like to give a warm welcome to all in coming L.E.T. 1'S and welcome back all returning students. We are so excited for this upcoming year and what is in store for everyone. Lets make this a great year for all students!

We are so grateful for the work that you put into making our Battalion run as smooth as possible and making it a fun learning environment. More specifically, winning 1st place Male Color Guard,1st place Female Color Guard, 2nd place Knockout, 3rd place Individual Male Exhibition,1st place Male Squad Exhibition, 1st place JV Squad, and 1st place Varsity Squad. Thank you to all the cadets participating and continue to present your hardwork!
On February 3rd, our Hawk Battalion Color Guard assisted in the retirement for retiring Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Wilson. In our Hawk Battalion, retirements are very monumental due to the positive impact was extended to our Armed Forces, to our freedoms, is now applied fully to our communities, and we are very thankful for that. Thank you for your support to our Hawk Battalion, to our community, and to our nation. Thank you to our color guard consisting of the cadets Perez, Stevenson, Walter and Rascoe.
On the 21st, our Viera Hawk Battalion hosted its 12th Annual JROTC Military Ball. We were blessed to have First Sergeant (Ret.) Bobby Cruz, our SAI amidst the pandemic, as this year's incredible guest speaker! With over half our battalion appreciating First Sergeant (Ret.) Bobby Cruz already, those who were in attendance admired his words of wisdom and his remarkable speech! Much like years prior, this year's military ball was hosted and catered inside the Indian River Colony Club, to which our cadets appreciated immensely due to the fantastic food, phenomenal service, and the outstanding hall. Thank you to our Booster Club for your spectacular efforts in making this military ball possible, and thank you to every cadet in attendance!
On Saturday 14th, our Viera JROTC Rifle team shot in the 2023 Brevard County Air Rifle Championship! Our Varsity team shot a total of 830 points, with 296 in prone, 224 in kneeling and 274 standing! Our Junior Varsity team shot a total of 803, with 327 in prone, 234 kneeling, and 242 in standing! Congratulations to both JV and Varsity Rifle Teams on a phenomenal season!
 With the beginning of the new year, we would like to remind our Cadets of our highly anticipated, 2023 JROTC Military Ball! Featuring the esteemed guest speaker, First Sergeant (Ret.) Bobby Cruz! With utmost importance, the invitations will need to be turned in by Friday, January 13th! We hope to see you there!
